A PRAYER SHIELD OVER US

March 6th is our target date to leave for Sri Lanka with a team of 14 workers; 6 DRs., 1 PA, 3 RNs, 1 OT, 1 EMT, and 3 non-medical professionals (Sri Lanka Medical Mission Bios). This will be a 15 day medical mission trip. Some members are well seasoned in mission travel while others are first timers. Our mission statement is to bring Hope and Help through medical services to the Hidden and Hurting people in Sri Lanka. Would you join us along with others to provide a "prayer shield"over us?

A prayer shield is a "covering" provided by the intercessors who commit to pray faithfully for a given time. We are thankful that so many of you prayed everyday for our trips in the past. Without prayer support, we would choose not to go—that’s how important you are!

"The place God calls you is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet" is a quote that captivates the call that we feel and share with our team members as we leave for Sri Lanka.

Picture a tear droplet and you will visualize the shape of the island of Sri Lanka. We will be working in the city of Galle at the bottom of the tear drop. Sri Lanka is just southeast of India. Pray for those people that we will come in contact with that their hearts will be open to the love of Jesus.

Pray through the scripture for us. Our chosen chapter is Psalm 91

March 5, Saturday. Psalms 91:1 "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High, will abide in the shadow of the Almighty." Pray that all the team members have all their necessary medical supplies and medicines ready for packing and above all, that we are walking in the Spirit prepared to serve the Carpenter.

March 6, Sunday. Psalm 91:2 "I will say to the Lord, my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." Pray for our departure and safe travel as we begin the 20 hour flight. Pray that all our supplies and medicines get to the destination.

March 7, Monday. Psalm 91:3 " For it is He who delivers you from the snare of the trapper and from the deadly pestilence." Pray for the flights of all the team members. As you pray, we will be flying from New York to Dubai, UAE, then on to Colombo, Sri Lanka arriving at 3 AM. There is then a 3 1/2 hour ride to Galle. Pray for safety in all their travels.

March 8, Tuesday. Psalm 91: 4 " He will cover you with His pinions and under His wings you may seek refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark." Pray that we adjust well to the 11 hour time difference. Pray that as we meet together for the first time, we will bond and become a team. Pray by name for Rick & Karen Lundgren, Barbara Collver, Nancy Gomoll, Jill Gomoll, Liz Andersen, Jeff King, Ian Bare, Mark Weisner, Andrea Mead, Michelle Soriano Travis Chapman, Bill Stalter and Frank Luter Pray that we would serve with humble hearts

March 9, Wednesday. Psalm 91: 5 "You will not be afraid of the terror by night or of the arrow that flies by day." This will be our first day to serve as a medical team in the Sri Lanka. We will be gathering our supplies and driving to the site of the "clinic". (It could be a make-shift area where the patients can be triaged by the nurses and examined by the doctors.) Pray wisdom for the doctors, nurses, pharmacy techs and support staff. Pray that we might be flexible to the restrictions of the language, hot humid weather, and the game-plans of the in-country staff. Pray that the team will over-come culture shock and see with the eyes of Jesus rather than our own needs.

March 10, Thursday. Psalm 91:6 "…of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, or of the plague that lays waste at noon." Disease will be rampant and destruction all around us. Pray for physical protection from disease and shielding our vulnerable minds from being overwhelmed with their hopelessness. We must be ambassadors of the Hope of Jesus to these needy people.

March 11, Friday. Psalm 91:7 "A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not approach you." Pray that God goes before us this day, and prepares us spiritually, emotionally, and physically for the numbers of people that will be pressing us for relief. We need to be walking in the Spirit, filled with His power to perform in a Godly way. We can’t function on this mission by just using our skills, gritting our teeth, all in the energy of the flesh.

March 12, Saturday. Psalm 91: 8 "You will only observe with your eyes, and see the punishment of the wicked." Pray that we see these dear people as ones for whom Jesus died. God will use this Tsunami horrors to open their hearts to Him. This is an area where there is much demon oppression. We need the full armor of God to be His warriors! Pray that we be clean channels through which the Spirit of God can flow. Pray that we are able to be part of a revival sweeping across the city of Galle.

March 13, Sunday. Psalm 91: 9 "You have made the Lord my refuge, even the Most High your dwelling place." Pray that we will have a time of worship and rest in the morning. Otherwise, our day may be filled with meeting needs however they may come. Perhaps we’ll have opportunity to hug and play with some children or maybe to sit by the side of the despairing adults who need a shoulder to cry on.

March 14, Monday. Psalm 91:10 "..no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent." Pray for safety as we sleep at night. There are 3 sleeping areas for the team to bed-down for the night and the accommodations will be poor. The women will be housed in a different facility and the men in another. Pray that our sleep through the night refreshes us for the day’s responsibilities and that we would serve with gladness.

March 15, Tuesday. Psalm 91:11 "For He will command His angels concerning you, to guard you in all your ways." Pray today that we have safety in all our travels and contacts. Pray that

we have a ministry of encouragement to the believers there and that they see the Carpenter not us!

March 16, Wednesday. Psalm 91:12 "…they will lift you up in their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone." Pray against any possible injury or disease that might curtail our mission there for any of the team members. Pray for endurance to complete the job we started. Two of our doctors, Ian Bare and Jeff King will leave the team to return to the States today taking a 3 1/2 hour trip to the capitol city, Colombo and flying out early in the morning Pray for their safe travel all the way home, for health and strength to return to their work.

March 17, Thursday. Psalm 91: 13 "You will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent" (Hopefully this is only figurative language!!) We can count on our victory through Jesus Christ our Lord for even the "serpents and lions" that we might be asked to encounter. Pray that we walk faithfully and judiciously this day. Our number is down to 12 team members now with 3 days left to minister to the needs. Pray that we have endurance to complete the job.

March 18, Friday. Psalm 91:14 "Because he loves me, says the Lord, I will rescue him. I will protect him, because he has known my name." What a promise for us to claim today! Pray that we recognize His power to keep us safe. We may be weary today—pray for finishing stamina!

Give our team leader, Frank, wisdom to cover all the bases of the project and prepare for the next team following us.

March 19, Saturday. Psalm 91:15 "He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him." This is our last day to serve. Pray that we leave with a sense that we were the Hands and Heart of Jesus ministering to the people of Galle. Pray that as we started this project so enthusiastically, that we would carry the job to completion just as gladly, giving whatever we can out of whatever we have, that our zeal at the start would be equaled by the realistic action today! (L.B. paraphrase 11 Corinthians 8:10-11)

March 20, Sunday. Psalm 91:16 "With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation" Pray that the day of our departure, leaving at 3 a.m., will be a day of praise for us to see with God’s eyes what salvation He has brought to the city of Galle. Pray that we could just visualize with spirit-directed eyes what God will do for all of the far reaches of this country and all those who have been beaten down with the tides of the Tsunami. God desires to capture this continent for His Son. We have been a team, you as prayer warriors and us as hands on workers. Together we have been a small part of turning the Tide for all of south-east Asia!

Thank you for being our prayer warriors! You have been involved with each doctor, nurse and medical professional as they have ministered medically and spiritually. You have been behind every smile and each deed of kindness. You have been our priests to petition the God of the universe that He would show His mercy to the people of this land. Because of Him, Frank & Ruth

P.S. Frank’s favorite "side-kick" on medical trips is taking "a medical break" but will be with us in her prayers. Ruth will be having total hip replacement surgery when Frank returns from this trip.
